Quiz master Tony Maddern loves a challenge. The man behind a thousand questions and answers on Australian tourism destinations has spent the last two years coming up with fascinating facts that give travellers the rites of passage to the new trivia board game Passport to Australia. “I enjoy learning and getting into the details of a topic, so I guess that made the research and development of the questions a good deal easier,” Tony said. “Personally, the most challenging aspect for me was to create a game that would suit a very wide range of age groups. “As a family game, we wanted to make Passport to Australia exciting for all players, whether they were eight years old or 88. “That meant being flexible and designing the questions to account for, not just age differences but all kinds of factors, such as if players were born and raised in Australia or migrated here, or had an intellectual disability. “In most cases, travellers are given four possible answers to choose from, while children and adults who might find the four options too challenging only choose between two – the right and the wrong answer. “This means everyone can enjoy the game and learn something new about Australia. For me – well, that’s the best part of the job.” With experience on his side, Tony is now working on supplementary questions and the question ideas submitted online by enthusiasts of Passport to Australia.
